What is Elderly Care?

Elderly care is the fulfilment of the special needs and requirements that are unique to senior citizens.

This broad term encompasses such services as assisted living, adult day care, and home care. Elderly care emphasises the social and personal requirements of people who need some assistance with daily activities and health care and who desire to age with dignity.

Elderly Care with TLC

Elderly care is the fulfilment of the support needs and requirements that are unique to senior citizens. The term Elderly Care encompasses; assisted living, adult daycare, and home care. Elderly care emphasises the social and personal support requirements of people who need some assistance with daily activities, health care and social interaction who want to stay living in their own home and age with dignity.

What does elderly care entail?

An elderly carer can provide personal care, food and drink preparation, feeding, assistance with medication, shopping, cleaning, help with caring for a pet and companionship, as well as accompanying clients to medical appointments and social events if needed.

Our elderly process and care plan

Before Elderly Care starts with TLC one of our experienced Care Managers visits every customer to discuss and assess their needs and only then is a care plan tailored to suit their circumstances. We work hard to ensure every customer’s independence is maintained as much as possible as we understand that if an elderly person becomes too reliant on their carer then this can lead to them needing more and more support as time goes on.

When a care plan has been agreed we then look to match one of our carers. We look at their qualifications and experience as well as their interests and hobbies. At TLC, we understand that a carer coming into your home can sometimes take a while to adjust to so matching personal interests helps this transition.

Why TLC is the easy choice for your loved one

Every one of our carers is DBS checked and their references are fully reviewed before they are employed with us. We understand that our carers and the exceptional care they provide is the core of our business and we only employ carers into our team who have a passion for providing professional and caring services.

We have regular quality reviews carried out by our public-sector clients and are registered with the Care Quality Commission who are the independent regulator of health and social care in England. Their purpose is to make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care, always encouraging care services to improve. If they find that care has fallen short of this, they will act and hold care providers and managers to account for failures in how care is provided.

We also have regular reviews and assessments with our clients and their carers to ensure the quality of their care is exceptional and their individual care plan is still relevant.

TLC is Herefordshire’s experienced & trusted home care provider

If you have an elderly friend or relative that now needs support in their day to day activities, needs full-time or live-in care so they can stay in their own home rather than go into a residential care home then TLC can help.

We have been caring for customers for over 20 years and we specialise in supporting elderly people to stay in their own home, retaining their independence with the confidence of knowing they have someone there with them for companionship, as well as helping them with their day to day life. At TLC, we make life easier for everyone we care for.

It is really difficult and stressful for most elderly patients when they start to feel they can’t cope on their own anymore and the fear of having to leave their own home and move into a residential home. At Total Living Care, we understand that moving into a residential care home takes them away from their friends, community and can leave them feeling they have lost themselves and their independence.

It is also a difficult time for family and friends as the pressures of looking after an elderly family member takes them away from their work and own immediate family as well as them having the worry that their family member is ok 24 hours of the day. As a family member gets older you want to enjoy the time you have with them, rather than spending it cooking, cleaning, washing, running errands and taking them to appointments.

Is elderly home care expensive?

Often people don’t think about the option of having a carer coming into their relatives home to help them a couple of hours a day, full time or actually live in with them to prevent them from going into a care home as they assume the cost would be too much, however, this isn’t always the case. It is a fantastic option if a couple or one of the couple needs additional support as it allows them to stay together rather than one, or both of them going into a care home. This is especially important if the care needed for one of them differs and this would mean they would need to move into different homes.

Elderly care is an increasingly popular alternative to moving into a care home and offers a positive way of continuing to live as independently as possible in homely surroundings. Elderly Care at home often costs less than living in a care home. Some clients have found that it makes more financial sense to have 24/7 care compared to multiple social care visits per day and this is something we can help you with.

We believe at Total Living Care that staying in your own home should be a choice for everyone and our exceptional elderly care services ensure that this can happen.

Home Care FAQs

What are the qualifications & regulations of your carers?

All of our carers are DBS checked and highly qualified and experienced. Total Living Care is also checked, registered and regulated by the Care Quality Commission (provider ID 1-1520389628) If you are still curious about our carers, feel free to call us on 01989 562000.

Who do your Live-in Carers work with?

Our live-in carers work for all different types of people that cannot stay in their own home without support. This includes the elderly, children, and people with disabilities or learning difficulties. Whatever the needs of our clients, our carers will always do their uppermost to fulfill their needs to ensure they can live in the way they would without care and can be happy in their own home. If you believe that you, a friendly or a family member requires care then please call us on 01989 562000.

How good is your carers knowledge on Dementia?

All of our carers have excellent knowledge about Dementia and are trained thoroughly on how to deal with and support people who suffer with Dementia. Each of our Dementia Care clients has their support needs acknowledged beforehand so that the care is as efficient and beneficial as possible. Each of our carers also has a great understanding of dementia symptoms and how to deal with them. With Dementia Care, the level and care and support can vary day by day, this is why it is important they are knowledgeable about Dementia so they can deal with different situations at different stages.

What is companionship care?

Companionship care is primarily aimed at our senior clients so that they can have emotional support and companion. It is common for elderly people to become lonely when their mobility is low and they may have a lot of friends or family members that have sadly passed away. Our carers help to keep our clients’ minds busy and to keep them company. Loneliness can make an impact very negatively on a person’s life and can lead to cognitive decline. This is why being accompanied is so important. Our Companionship Care services are all bespoke specifically for the client, so the care is as effective as possible.

Covid-19 Measures at Total Living Care

At Total Living Care, we are used to dealing with viral outbreaks such as “normal” flu, and have long established infection control measures to protect our clients and staff from the spread of infection.
These measures already include good handwashing regimes, the use of personal protective equipment (“PPE”), protocols for self-isolation and minimising social contact. We have business continuity plans to manage issues with supply chains and administrative functions.

Current Measures

The speed of transmission of Covid 19 has taken the World by surprise. Last year, we formed a collaborative group of all the major local care agencies to improve care in Ross on Wye (www.rosscaregroup.org) and manage the response to any challenges we would face. This group is now totally focussed on addressing the challenges raised by the Coronavirus. We meet daily to discuss the changes to the guidance and advice from the Government and Public Health England, and also the issues which are facing the healthcare sector more widely.

We have taken the decision to close the offices. All our office staff are able to carry out their duties from home.
If you require care for yourself or another person, please contact us using chat, telephone or email.
Thank you for your help and understanding in these challenging times, but please be assured that the health and well-being of our clients and staff is our paramount concern at all times, particularly now.

Yours sincerely,
James Lloyd
